Trust and Estate
At Stackpole & French, we believe that succession planning is a critical goal for every person and every business that we represent. From our long experience in the practice of law, we well know that careful advance planning is more efficient and less costly than having to deal with issues after the fact. We work closely with our clients and their professional advisors to understand their goals and concerns, and to develop and implement a plan that protects their family and assets, minimizes taxes, and preserves wealth for future generations. Our planning services include Advance Health Care Directives, Durable Powers of Attorney, Wills,
Trusts and trust funding, business succession, and guardianships. We also have broad experience with both trust and probate administration, providing personal and legal assistance with the difficult process of settling an estate after the death of a loved one.
Real estate
Stackpole & French has been extensively involved in Stowe and Northern Vermont real estate since 1964. During that period, we have represented area builders, developers of subdivisions, condominium and timeshare developments, homeowners’ associations, and banks, as well as purchasers and sellers of land, residences, and commercial properties. The firm’s expertise includes an extensive knowledge of State and local permit procedures for new properties, as well as the ability to provide comprehensive assessments of permits and permit compliance issues for existing properties. Stackpole & French maintains close working relationships with area banks, real estate offices, towns, land planners, and engineers.
Corporation
Stackpole & French represents its corporate clients in a variety of areas from initial formation and entity selection to regulatory compliance, contract negotiation, mergers, acquisitions, dissolution, and winding up.
We work cooperatively with our clients and also with our clients’ accountants and other business advisors to ensure that our representation adds value to their businesses.
Utility
Stackpole & French has extensive experience in representing clients in utility matters. We have provided counsel for our utility clients on day-to-day activities, as well as advocacy before local governments, state regulatory bodies such as the Vermont Public Service Board, and on the federal level before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the United States Supreme Court
Litigation
Stackpole & French has been actively involved in providing civil litigation services to individuals and businesses in State and Federal Courts since 1964. Stackpole & French represents both Plaintiffs and Defendants in a wide array of matters ranging from individual disputes to complex multiple-party litigation.
General Counsel
Stackpole & French represents many clients from Vermont and around the world as local General Counsel, handling and coordinating their affairs and interests in State of Vermont, the Northeast Region, and across the border into Quebec. Given our capabilities and experience in corporate law, real estate, and litigation, we have developed long term relationships with many clients who rely on us for on-going personal local representation. Combining the traditional concept of personal counsel with modern technology and communication allows us to effectively represent the local interests of clients from across the globe
